The PE ratio is a popular valuation metric used by investors to determine a company’s value. It compares the current stock price to the company’s earnings per share. However, the forward PE ratio takes into account the company’s projected earnings for the next 12 months. This gives investors a more current and forward-looking view of the stock.
To calculate the forward PE ratio, we divide the current stock price by the estimated earnings per share for the next 12 months. A high forward PE ratio indicates that the stock may be relatively more expensive compared to its expected earnings, while a lower ratio suggests the stock may be undervalued. However, it’s important to compare the forward PE ratio of a stock to its industry peers for a more accurate analysis.
