In this [VIX Futures Historical Prices] video 🎥, we take a closer look at the VIX term structure and analyze the recent spike in volatility due to the missile strikes in Russia from Ukraine. We see that although there was an initial increase in volatility, it quickly declined back to 16, indicating a contango in the VIX term structure. Using our VIX term structure tool on our homepage, we can also see that the current VIX is significantly below the VIX Futures, suggesting that the VIX is expected to rise in the future.
One interesting feature of our VIX Futures term structure tool is that it allows us to look at historical prices, giving us a better understanding of current trends and volatility. We can see that the current Futures are declining as we move further out, but if we add in the current day, we can see how it compares to the term structure. This can be valuable information for traders of VIX Futures and ETFs.
